Something Fertile

Something fertile erstwhile lies
and hands go forth to seed it.
Something leafy thus-wise grows
and tines go in to weed it.
Something succulent yonder hangs
and mouths go up to eat it.
Something lovely that way goes
and knights ride forth to free it.
Something good this way comes
and fools rush in to grieve it.

Something meaty nomadic breathes
and men move in to breed it.
Something circular their way comes
and probes fly out to meet it.
Something holy inside births
and the world claws to bleed it.
Something good this way comes
and fools rush out to grieve it.

Something awful flares and fades
and God smiles to redeem it.
Something joyful this way walks
and joy goes out to greet it.
Something good this way comes
and fools rush in to grieve it.

Something good comes cloaked inside
and fools rush out to leave it.
